Maddon served as a coach for the California/Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 1993 to 2005. He served as the team's interim manager in 1996 and 1999. As bench coach for the Angels, Maddon won a World Series Championship in 2002. Maddon coached under managers Buck Rodgers, Marcel Lachemann, John McNAmara, Terry Collins, and Mike Scioscia.

Tampa Bay Rays

In November of 2005, Maddon was hired as manager of the Tampa Bay Rays. The team was in a rebuilding phase and held the lowest payroll in baseball at the time. But in 2008, the Rays won the American League pennant with Maddon snagging his first Manager of the Year award. He won American League Manager of the Year again for the 2011 season in which the Rays clinched the American League Wild Card and made it to the American League Division Series. At the end of 2014, Maddon decided to opt out of his contract despite an aggressive push by the team to re-sign him.

Chicago Cubs

Joe Maddon was hired as manager of the Chicago Cubs in 2015 and helped lead them to the National League Championship Series that year. He won his third Manager of the Year award, this time the 2015 National League Manager of the Year. And in 2016, he saw the Chicago Cubs break their 108-year World Series Championship drought with a 4-3 series win over the Cleveland Indians. But after a quick exit from the 2018 playoffs, the Cubs decided not to extend Maddon's five-year contract and let it expire after failing to make the playoffs the next year.

Return to L.A.

Joe Maddon made his return to the Angels in 2020 on a three-year deal as manager. After a COVID-19-shortened season of 60 games, Maddon made the decision to allow star Shohei Ohtani to both hit and pitch following his 2019 Tommy John surgery recovery and 2020 setback. Maddon's idea of a six-man rotation let Ohtani pitch once every seven days and serve as the designated hitter in between. Joe Maddon was fired by the Angels in June of 2022 amidst a 12-game losing streak.

Personal Life

Joe Maddon has two children and five grandchildren through his first marriage. Maddon married his second wife in 2008.

Maddon started the Respect 90 Foundation that holds an annual charity golf tournament in his hometown of Hazleton and sponsors an annual charity boxing event in Chicago. The Respect 90 Foundation raises funds to help inner city youth.

Tampa Mansion

In 2012, Joe and his wife paid $1.76 million for a 5,400 square foot, ocean-view mansion in Tampa, Florida. They listed this home for sale for $3.9 million August 2021. Two months later the sold it for $3.5 million.

What is Bruce Bochy's Net Worth and Salary?

Bruce Bochy is an American professional baseball manager and retired professional baseball player who has a net worth of $14 million. Bruce Bochy, AKA "Boch" and "Headly," played in Major League Baseball from 1978-1987 before becoming a manager. He is the 11th manager in MLB history to hit the 2,000-win mark and only to win 900 games with two different teams.

Salary and Contracts

In April 2015, Bruce signed a three-year contract extension with the Giants that upped his salary from $4.5 million to $6 million per year. Upon signing with the Rangers in late 2022, Bruce signed a three-year contract that came with undisclosed terms but is believed to be higher than his previous per-season contract and made him one of the highest-paid coaches in the league. Bochy had previously intended to retire and had reportedly been intensely courted by the Rangers. With that information in mind, his Rangers contract is almost certainly worth at least $21 million over three years, aka $7 million per year.

Early Life

Bruce Douglas Bochy was born on April 16, 1955, in Landes de Boussac, Bussac-Foret, France. His father was stationed in France as part of the U.S. Army, and Bruce grew up in Virginia and Florida. Bruce graduated from Melbourne High School before attending Brevard Community College (later Easter Florida State College) for two years on a partial scholarship. The baseball team won the state championship in 1975, and then Bochy committed to play ball at South Alabama. In January of 1975, Bruce was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 8th round of the MLB Draft but chose not to sign.

Playing Career

On June 3, 1975, Bruce Bochy was selected by the Houston Astros with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 1975 Supplemental Draft and decided to turn pro. Bochy made his MLB debut for the Astros in 1978. He played for the Astros until 1980 and then played for the New York Mets in 1982. He finished his playing career with the San Diego Padres from 1983 to 1987. The Padres made it to the World Series in 1984 in which Bruce played one game, but the team lost in five games to the Detroit Tigers.

On July 1, 1985, Bochy hit a 10th-inning walk-off homerun off of pitcher Nolan Ryan, the only walk-off homer surrendered by Ryan in his career. Bruce was also behind the plate on September 11, 1985, when Pete Rose hit his record-breaking 4,192nd hit off of Padres' pitcher Eric Snow.

Managing Career

Bruce Bochy managed for four years in the minor leagues before becoming the Padres manager in 1995. He managed the Padres until 2006 and became the manager of the San Francisco Giants in 2007. He was named the National League Manager of the Year in 1996 and won National League pennants in 1998, 2010, 2012, and 2014. He led the Giants to World Series championships in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

In late 2022, Bochy was named the manager of the Texas Rangers.

Personal Life

Bruce married Kim Seib in 1978 after meeting her while at Brevard Community College. They have two sons, Greg and Brett, together. Greg spent several seasons in the San Diego Padres minor league system, and Brett was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2010. Bruce and Kim reside in Poway, California.

Bruce Bochy accepted the Ronald L. Jensen Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Positive Coaching Alliance's National Youth Sports Awards in May of 2011. That same year, the field at Brevard Community College was named Bruce Bochy Field in his honor.

Bochy released a book in 2015 called "A Book of Walks" that described his favorite walks around major league cities including San Francisco.

Bochy became both the first foreign-born manager to reach the World Series (1998) and European-born manager to win the World Series (2010).

Real Estate

In February 1997, ahead of his second season as the manager of the Padres, Bruce paid $590,000 for a home in Poway, California. In September 2022, right around when he named as the manager of the Rangers, he sold this home for $2.755 million. Before agreeing to become the manager of the Rangers, Bruce and his family moved to Nashville.

As a teenager, he attended the Spalding Institute, a Catholic high school. Girardi went on to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, where he played baseball for the Wildcats. He graduated in 1986 with a BS in industrial engineering; he also earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor in recognition of his joint athletic and academic prowess.

Minor League Career

In the 1986 MLB draft, Girardi was chosen in the fifth round by the Chicago Cubs. He played four seasons in the team's minor league system, mainly with the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League. Girardi also played one season outside of the US for the Águilas del Zulia of the Venezuelan Winter League.

Chicago Cubs, 1989-1992

Girardi made his MLB debut for the Cubs in April of 1989. In his rookie year, he posted a .248 batting average with one home run and 14 RBIs across 59 games. Girardi played 133 games in his second season, batting .270 with one home run and 38 RBIs. In the 1991 season, he only played 21 games, batting .191 with six RBIs. Girardi's final season with the Cubs in 1992 saw him batting .270 with one home run and 12 RBIs across 91 games.

Colorado Rockies

Girardi and the Yankees claimed another World Series title in 1998 by sweeping the San Diego Padres. The next season, they swept the Braves to win a second-consecutive World Series. Girardi had another career highlight in 1999 when he caught David Cone's perfect game.

In 2001, Girardi batted .253 with three home runs and 25 RBIs over 78 games. Ending his career with the Cubs in 2002, Girardi batted .226 with one home run and 26 RBIs over 90 season games.

Team Management

In 2006, Girardi replaced Jack McKeon as the manager of the Florida Marlins. He had a shaky season with the team, and was nearly fired in August after getting into a verbal altercation with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria during a game. Girardi ultimately was fired, in October. Despite that, he earned the National League Manager of the Year Award. Girardi went on to manage his former team the Yankees from 2008 to 2017. Although the team performed poorly in his first year as manager, it improved greatly in 2009 and won the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2011, Girardi oversaw the Yankees' AL East title win. His final season as manager of the Yankees saw the team making it to the ALCS, but losing to the Houston Astros.

Two years after leaving the Yankees, Girardi became the manager of the Phillies. Under his management from 2020 to 2022, the team recorded some of the worst stats in its history, including the most blown saves by any MLB team ever. After the Phillies started out the 2022 season with a 22-29 record, Girardi was fired. The team went on to win 14 of its next 16 games en route to winning the National League pennant.

Personal Life

With his wife Kim Innocenzi, Girardi has three children. The couple lives in Purchase, New York.
